Phillip & Lacey - the life and love of a boy & his best friend!!
Jan. 2007 - Lacey and Phillip's bond continues to grow day-by-day. When Phillip is home, they are practically inseperable. Lacey "hangs out" in the living room when Phillip is there with the rest of the family and when he goes to his room to play... she follows along. She has coerced Phillip into playing with her (which is FANTASTIC). She initiates play with him and she knows the easiest way to get him to laugh is to "nibble" on him (he thinks this is hillarious - for some reason). She wakes him up in the morning by licking him and pawing at his blankets. She goes to bed with him at night (unless he starts "fighting sleep" and then no one expects her to stay in bed and get kicked...when he goes to sleep, she gets back in bed with him. Lacey watches for me to give Phillip his meds. and will almost always walk up and lick him... as if to say "It's ok... go ahead and take them." and she's all too happy to lie on his legs so that I don't have to chase him (on the occasion that he won't take it easily). Lacey gives Phillip kisses while I change his clothes (which keeps his mind off of what I am doing!) and when Phillip sits in the back seat of the van - she sits back there with him! They are becoming quite a pair and we can only hope for more as time goes by! He loves her and she obviously loves him! We thank God everyday for her...she's our hero!
February 2007: Update!
Lacey just went on her first family 'mini-vacation'. We took a weekend trip to the beach, which generally causes Phillip to have a seizure (especially when we leave at night). Even though Phillip usually has a seizure - it's always mild and he gets over it quickly and we know that he would rather go - than not because he LOVES the beach!!! So... usually at the beach Phillip is the one that we focus on because we are trying to keep him from running off to see everything and because we also want him to be able to have a good time (which is hard when someone has a 'death grip' on you. BUT this trip: Phillip was the best of our three children! He never fussed - not once. While we had to fight the girls to get them to bed for naps & bedtime - Phillip & Lacey went to bed on their own - no fussing, no getting up and down, NOTHING! While the girls where whining and fussing - Phillip was GREAT!! He walked with Lacey, used her for balance when he needed it (stepping up on curbs, etc), and she apparently had a calming effect on him because for the first trip in a LONG LONG time he had NO seizures, NO meltdowns & NO running off, etc. He was WONDERFUL!!! I just had to share this experience because I have NO DOUBT that it was because of Lacey that he was this way!!! For the first time ever he put himself to bed w/ other people in the room!!! HALLELUHAH!!!!
April 1st - UPDATE: On her own - Lacey started responding to Phillips' sounds of 'distress.' Anytime he makes a noise that sounds like he's upset - Lacey comes running - whether she's in a different room or across the room. She comes in - checks to make sure he's ok (usually by giving him a 'kiss') and then goes back to whatever she was doing!!
May 2007 Update:
at the beginning of this month - Phillip caught some kind of virus - with which he had a dangerously high fever, wouldn't eat and wouldn't drink. The good news is - the sicker he got - the closer to him Lacey stayed! Without even been told to - Lacey stuck to him like glue (even when he protested at her closeness!) She laid on the couch with (or ON) him, and when she had to relieve herself - she would go out, do her business, and immedietly come back inside to him. (Normally she would go out and play for a while.)
Then he had to be hospitalized because of multiple seizures and dehydration. Lacey didn't leave his bed, even though the door to our room was left open and at some points- no one was holding her lead. She stayed - right by her boy - and "checked up" on what everyone was doing to him, and to make sure they were "ok people." Jamie (Phillip's Daddy) slept in the hospital bed with Phillip that night - and even though he was there - Lacey still kept her vigil over Phillip - at some points even lying on top of him . . . never leaving the bed - except when told too. She truly amazed us and everyone involved. I will never again doubt her love for Phillip - she proved herself those days! Thank God for her!
OCTOBER 2008 - Phillip and Lacey are still doing great. Sometimes she follows him around the house and sometimes he follows her. Phillip does NOT like to go to bed without his girl & in the morning - when it's time for him to get up - she is there to help me - by doing "touch" and giving him plenty of WAKE UP kisses~! Then when it's time to go to bed - he always asks for his "Yaycey" When he gets up and I'm not around to snuggle with - he runs to Lacey and loves up to her! They are doing so great together! I couldn't be happier with her in our lives! She has truly been a blessing!
THINGS PHILLIP & LACEY DO TOGETHER:
They share Lacey's water!
They sometimes sleep on Lacey's bed!
And they sometimes sleep on Phillip's bed.
If Phillip isn't having Pizza for dinner, he will share his food with Lacey!
They go out to eat together.
(of couse, Lacey isn't crazy about this because she isn't allowed to clean up all the crumbs HA HA)
They went to see Santa Claus together!
They hang out & watch TV together!
They both chase the cat... but only Phillip is allowed to carry her around!

Mostly... they love each other!
Phillip & Lacey's FIRST CHRISTMAS TOGETHER!!!
Early Christmas morning, Phillip got overwhelmed and then had a seizure :( Lacey piled up on the couch next to us & never moved from her vigil until Phillip was up and going. Then she spent the day following him around the house.
Lacey loved her present from Santa, and didn't want anyone to take it from her... so she kept a good "grip" on it! LOL
Lacey 'racked up' and she even has her own stocking! LOL
Sometimes they sleep on the couch together!
Phillip & Lacey love to hang out in Mom and Dad's bed!
Phillip seeks Lacey out more and more as the days go by. In this photo, Lacey was laying on the couch and Phillip decided she looked a little too comfortable sitting there all alone LOL (sorry for the nudity, but you can't really see anything!)
Phillip loves to use Lacey for a pillow, and I don't think she minds too much, either!
On the morning of Phillip's 6th Birthday he was acting a little strange (not wanting to get out of bed, trying to go back to sleep, etc.) and Lacey would only briefly leave him. She kept going back to check on him and paw at him as if to say "Hey, are you ok?"
Lacey finally caught the cat!!!! (But she did NOT hurt him!)
Lacey went to Special Olympics with Phillip - SWIM MEET!!! She hung out beside the pool and enjoyed the "fame" as everyone "ooooh'd and aaahhh'd" over her!!
Lacey got lots of lovin' from Phillip while they were at the Swim Meet... he was so proud to have his 'girl' there with him!
Lacey went to Special Olympics Track and Field, too - and she even had her own shirt this time (Mom & Dad wear a shirt that says -Phillip is our Special Olympics Star) and she got to stand at the Finish Line and "cheer" Phillip on as he ran the 25meter!!
When Phillip had to go to the hospital - Lacey went too, never leaving his side!
THANK GOD FOR LACEY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Lacey celebrates her 2nd birthday! Her first with our family - so of course it was a BIG deal! We had a dog safe birthday cake, singing & snacks all around!
July 6, 2007 - HAPPY 2nd BIRTHDAY LACEY!!!
Phillip did the unthinkable on a trip to Myrtle Beach this summer ('07) - he actually shared his ICE CREAM with Lacey! Ok - so he really shared Daddy's ice cream with Lacey, but the fact is that he normally would have just saved it for himself - but he didn't: he shared!!!
They went to Busch Gardens together! (Lacey wasn't sure about the roller coasters - but she got to ride a boat & meet the Busch Horses!)
They go to the movies together!! (To see UnderDog, here - which we thought they would BOTH like! LOL)
They played on the beach together! Lacey LOVES the ocean!
2 Years of being together and they are still Best Friends!
